3rd time...worked like a charm!

Ok, so anyone who has ever thought about owning a house, please, please pay attention now! Every job, I repeat, EVERY JOB takes approximately 3 times longer than you plan, costs three times more than you budget and turns out 3 times better than you could have ever hoped. Rich has been so patient with this door and we are so happy to finally have it up, hanging and ready to be knocked on. To take a trip down memory lane....it all started on Sunday, July 27th. Rich took the door off and hung a sheet in place of the door so that no bugs or such got in the house. He diligently sanded the black paint from the door with his new Milwaukee sander and had high hopes of getting the door finished before company arrived that evening. Problem number 1 was hanging right behind him and we didn't even notice...the cushions from the patio furniture were hanging in the garage to dry out before dinner that night. It was July, so of course, there was a mild rain storm that got them all wet hours before people were to arrive. He got all the bad black paint off the door and was ready to "rattle-can-it" (professional lingo from Kennewick) a beautiful Colonial Red...a hint of merlot. So beautiful. Look at that color...amazing. He moved it from the front yard to the garage to dry...move forward about 25 minutes. I start moving the cushions from the garage to the patio to put back on the chairs and accidentally got a few drops of water on the door. We think that the door has dried enough that it won't show....oops, we were wrong. Water spots all over the door. One day's work down the drain and we are back at square one for the door!!! A few weeks go by...attempt number 2 fails. No pictures to document this trial run by request of the painter. We were pretty discouraged at this point and were ready to NOT have a front door. As the responsible home owners that we are...we decided that we better get a door on and done sometime soon. Fast forward to August 23rd...Rich spends an entire day stripping the paint down to the metal and an evening here and there prepping the door by hand sanding. It was a LONG, tedious project that tested our patience to the fullest...Here is Rich with the mineral spirits and sand paper...hard at work! Babe - I'm so proud of you for sticking with this. FINALLY, YEAH, HOORAY FOR TODAY! THE DOOR IS PAINTED AND JUST AWAITING FINAL MOUNTING.
